Care Guide

Jewelry care guide that will help your jewelry last longer.

The 6 S's of Jewelry Care

SLEEP

When you sleep you apply pressure to your jewelry for longer amount of time which might result in more wear and tear this way. What's more, all of the oil, dirt, and chemicals that may have accumulated on your jewelry throughout the day are still being harboured in the nooks and crannies of that jewelry. This can affect your skin as well. Best practices are to remove your pieces before you go to sleep, and to wipe them down with a clean cloth. This way you're preserving your favourite jewelry, and making sure your skin gets a breather too!

SHOWER

Water is a big no-no when it comes to jewelry that isn't made from gold. Even highly priced silver and brass will get a tarnished look when exposed to water. Your best bet is to take your jewelry off before you hop in the shower.

SPRAY

This means any perfume, lotion, hairspray that you spray or apply to yourself. The chemicals quicken the tarnishing process of your jewelry by discoloring the metal or gems. There's a saying, "your jewelry should be the last thing you put on before you leave the house, and the first thing you take off when you come home."

SWIM

Both chlorine and saltwater can damage your pretty accessories, so ensure they're tucked away safely before you hit the surf! If you do get pool or sea water on your jewelry, don't worry too much. Just make sure you wash it with some gentle soap and then dry off completely before putting it away.

SWEAT

Now we all like to look cute at the gym, but sweat is a jewelry assassin! Definitely opt to keep those accessories at home or in a locker.

STORE

Be sure to store your jewelry in an airtight jewelry box or pouch! Although it is visually aesthetic to display your jewelry outside, the humidity in the air quicken the tarnishing process.
